Ever since the first 1/24 Routemasters were announced some three years ago, Sunstar have been on the leading edge of many collections when it comes to centre-piece models!

After numerous requests, Sunstar has followed up the success of the RM casting with a RT - specifically, the pre-war desgined AEC Regent III RT.  We are as excited as you undoubtedly are about this new release, which is scaled to a perfect 1/24 scale, making them approx 13.5 inches in length.  Amazing detail - just click on the pictures below and they will expand!  We recommend Pre-Ordering as this one is a limited edition (quantity to be confirmed) - as these are surely a must for every PSV enthusiast.

This model (first in a series of exclusive limited editions, further to be announced late in 2007) is an exact replica of RT113, an early pre-war Regent, which would have entered survice in London during the early parts of World War II.  Advertisements, blinds and all graphic details applied to the real thing are modelled in exact scale and applied using the latest state of the art techniques.

Even before RT1 entered service, the first orders for full scale production were placed in July and November 1938 for a total of 338 chassis and 341 bodies. Changes were made to both the chassis and body design of the RT1, the most visible being the omission of the off-side, staircase window and the projection of the roof over the front, upper-deck windows, and the curious re-location of the off-side headlight to the chassis, below the cab body. The revised specification was classified as 2RT2. Construction of the initial order of 150 chassis started at AEC's Southall factory in summer 1939, and on 20th May 1940, the last one was delivered to LPTB's Chiswick factory, where the bodies were made. Body manufacture was so slow that the second order for 188 chassis had already been suspended by then, and in fact this last chassis was not completed until January 14th 1942, entering service on February 1st. In total, only 150 2RT2's were made.

The key features which distinguish the 2RT2 from its successors are the front and rear roof-mounted Route number boxes, the sloping lower edge of the side and front windows of the driver's cab, the 6-louvred vent, the curious positioning of the off-side headlight, and the 2-bay blind box with the main destination above the via box.

H2921 Sunstar 1/24 AEC RT Bus - RT10  FXT185 - "Crosse and Blackwell" LT
RT10 entered service in May 1940 at the Chelverton Road garage and was then transferred in December 1940 to Putney. We have modelled RT10 as it was in 1946, having been painted in the new red and cream livery which was almost exactly the same as the original RT1 prototype and which would be adopted as the standard livery for STL’s and new and over-hauled RT’s for the next four years. By this time, an off-side headlight had been incorporated into the body below the driver’s window.

H2922 Sunstar 1/24 AEC RT Bus - RT36  FXT211 - Green London Transport
The last of the pre-war 2RT2’s were withdrawn from passenger service on May 31st 1955. Most of them stayed with London Transport as driver training or staff transport vehicles. However, on Country Bus Route 327, which was operated out of Hertford garage, there was a bridge at Broxbourne  which had a weight-carrying restriction which would not allow a standard post-war RT3 with a full load of passengers to cross over it. In the absence of any suitable STL’s,RT36 was one of only seven 2RT2’s to be re-painted in the green and cream livery of the Country Area and to re-enter passenger service on June 1st 1955 , where it stayed until August 31st 1957 before final withdrawal when the bridge had been strengthened. Our model replicates RT36 during its operation on 327.

H2923 Sunstar 1/24 AEC RT Bus - RT402  HLX219 LT
In 1947, manufacture of the first post-war RT’s started and on Saturday May 10th of that year, RT402 was the first of them to enter service, operating out of the Leyton garage on Route 10. This Weymann-bodied vehicle is a 3RT3 and incorporates all the characteristics this body. Externally, the cab windows were revised and the ventilation louvres were reduced in number. Furthermore, the rear off-side body panel in front of the rear wheel arch no longer curved inwards. In terms of Route information, a Route number plate was added to the front near-side pillar and one above the front near-side window was removed, the front destination blind box was re-located below the Via box and the rear roofbox has been omitted.  Internally, the fare chart moved to the off-side bulkhead, just above the off-side longitudinal bench seat, and a bell cord was added.
NOTE: RELEASED MODEL HAS ADVERTS FOR GENASPRIN ON ONE SIDE AND GILBEY'S GIN ON THE OTHER - NOT "HOVIS"

H2924 Sunstar 1/24 AEC RT Bus - 1946 RT7 - FXT182
In April 1946, three 2RT2, including RT7, were painted in an experimental livery which was intended to replace the war-time one, as used on our first RT model, 2920. This new simplified livery consisted of an all-over red body with black wings and wheel arches, a thin cream line above the upper-deck windows and a cream band between the upper and lower decks. Our model features RT7 in this short-lived livery, operating on Route 28 out of Chelverton Road garage, where it had entered service in March 1940. During that overhaul, the bell cord had been replaced with two bell pushes on the lower deck, a curtain had been added behind the front lower deck window and the handrails at the front had been re-sited.
